KENNET VALLEY MOBILE SIGNAL COVERAGE and BT DIGITAL VOICE PHONE SYSTEM

BT is proceeding with the roll out of the ‘Digital Voice’ system which operates through the internet using broadband. This new arrangement will cause problems in the Kennet Valley due to variable broadband coverage as well as power cuts and the lack of mobile signal coverage providing an alternative means of communication.

Please be aware that BT has stated that it will not switch over people who are vulnerable or who do not have any mobile signal coverage as long as BT knows about the situation. The criteria are as follows
• Customers with a healthcare pendant
• Customers who only use landlines
• Customers with no mobile signal
• Customers who have disclosed any additional needs.
Customers over the age of 70 are not being proactively switched to Digital Voice

Therefore residents are advised to contact BT to inform them about the lack of mobile coverage in our area and any other requirements as listed above.
Kennet Valley Parish Council has pursued local residents’ concerns about the lack of mobile signal coverage recognising the risks such as the delay in summoning emergency services and the problems associated with power outages. In collaboration with neighbouring Parishes (Avebury, East Kennet and Preshute) a meeting had been arranged with our MP, Danny Kruger in June 2024. The meeting was cancelled due to the general election and is being rearranged now for the autumn. The Council is also following up on the opportunity for villages in the Kennet Valley to be included in the national broadband upgrading programme.
